Vacancy freelance fashion designer

About Frederika

Frederika is a new womenswear brand in development, focused on jackets with colour, shape and character.

The idea is simple: to create the kind of jacket that makes an outfit. Not formal blazers, not outerwear, but special everyday jackets that move between work, dinner and daily life.

The first Frederika drop is planned for 2027. Right now, I am building the brand step by step: defining the product direction, finding the right materials and manufacturers, and developing the first jacket styles.

I am looking for a freelance fashion designer / product developer who can help translate the first ideas into real, wearable and producible jacket styles.

The assignment

I’m looking for a freelance fashion designer / product developer to help develop the first Frederika jacket styles from concept to sample-ready product.

The first collection will likely consist of 1 to 3 jacket models in multiple colours or fabrics. The focus is on women’s jackets with a strong silhouette, good fit and high-quality finish.

This is not about creating a full seasonal collection from scratch. The aim is to develop a clear first product direction: beautiful, wearable jackets with a distinct point of view.

The assignment starts with the first jacket styles, but I am very open to a longer-term collaboration if the fit is right.

What the role includes

The assignment may include:

  • translating rough ideas, references and moodboards into concrete jacket concepts
  • advising on silhouette, proportions, construction and feasibility
  • developing 1 to 3 jacket designs
  • creating technical drawings
  • advising on fabrics, trims, lining, buttons and finishing
  • preparing product information for sampling and production
  • supporting with tech packs, measurements and communication with manufacturers

The ideal candidate understands both the creative and technical side of womenswear.

Who I’m looking for

I’m looking for someone with experience in womenswear design and product development, preferably with jackets, tailoring, woven garments or structured pieces.

You are likely a good fit if you:

  • have experience designing and developing womenswear
  • understand garment construction, fit and production
  • can translate ideas into clear technical drawings and product specifications
  • enjoy working on a focused product rather than a large collection
  • are practical, creative and technically strong
  • can be honest about what is beautiful, feasible and commercially realistic

Experience with sustainable materials, deadstock fabrics or small production runs is a plus.

Practical details

  • Freelance assignment
  • Based in or near Utrecht / the Netherlands preferred
  • Combination of remote work and occasional in-person sessions
  • Timing: to be discussed
  • Start: preferably in the coming months
  • Scope: concept, design and product development phase for the first jackets
  • Opportunity to help shape a new womenswear brand from day one
  • Open to a longer-term collaboration if the first phase goes well
